Unpack and reorganise your inner suitcase to live a more fulfilled life

Melinda Friesenhahn

Psychologist, Family and Couples Therapist in training

"We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time." — T.S. Eliot In my work with clients, we strive to help them become the greatest experts in their own lives, allowing them to make decisions freely, without the distorting lenses of bias or fear. I believe that the key to true freedom lies in self-awareness, a journey that is often long and challenging. But this is not a journey you have to embark on alone!

Through persistent and dedicated work—together, hand in hand—we shed the shackles that hold us back from experiencing our liberated, authentic selves. Sometimes, we find the answers before we even know the questions; other times, we walk in circles only to finally recognize and understand where we began. The destination is different for everyone, as no two people are the same. However, I believe there is one constant in every choice and action: we are always driven either by fear or by love, for the two cannot coexist. I help my clients dig deep into their fears before making important decisions, so that fear no longer controls their lives and they can be guided purely by love as they search for themselves and the life they desire. In my work, I draw inspiration from my own travels, personal challenges, and revelations. From a self-awareness perspective, walking the Camino de Santiago was a life-changing experience for me. I also learned a great deal from my years spent abroad and the difficulties of resettling back home. I began my career as an English teacher, working with students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to adults. It was especially during my time working with young children that I realized how important family dynamics are, and how the interactions within a family profoundly shape the behavior and worldview of its members, particularly the children. I knew I wanted to understand these relationships more deeply and help improve them, which led me to pursue a career in psychology. Before becoming a psychologist, I worked for several years with people from various walks of life, both locally and abroad. In addition to teaching, I also supported individuals with autism and other disabilities, and worked as a career counselor and HR professional. These experiences allow me to examine problems from multiple perspectives and help me understand the different life situations my clients face. I graduated as a licensed psychologist in 2023, and I’m currently training as a family and couples therapist, which means my work is largely guided by a systemic approach. I also apply the knowledge from this training in individual therapy, as the patterns we acquire in our family of origin leave lasting imprints on our adult lives, influencing all our reactions and behaviors. Recognizing and understanding these patterns is crucial to solving our present issues, whether they relate to personal challenges, relationships, or romantic difficulties. I look forward to embarking on this journey together with you!
